Today -100: September 12, 1919: Of crimes against civilizatin and coups

There may be a general strike in support of the police strike in Boston. Then again, there may not. Woodrow Wilson calls the strike “a crime against civilization,” leaving Boston “at the mercy of an army of thugs.”

The US lands troops in Honduras to do something or other during its revolution/coup. Pres. Francisco Bertrand flees the country.

  1. I have to say, that Honduras story is an unusually in-depth and analytical, if biased, piece of reporting. No idea if it’s accurate or not, but at least it’s an effort to explain what’s going on in the region.

  2. Its analysis is rather undermined by the sense that the reporter just transcribed whatever the State Dept told him, and that the occasion of the US militarily invading a country deserves a bit more than this (if there was any follow-up in the NYT I didn't notice it).

My point wasn't that the story was unclear but that the rationale for the landing of the Marines was.
