Mexican Pres. Plutarco Elías Calles meets Archibishop Leopoldo Ruiz of Michoacan and tells him that churches, which are now property of the state, may stay open and services held in them while the Church pursues amending the Constitution. The Church refuses because they don’t want to recognize the state-ownership thing.
